The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) course is a four-month residential program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India). The course is designed to train candidates in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, and automation systems onboard ships. ETOs play a vital role in managing shipboard electrical equipment, control systems, and communication systems. The course commences every alternate month and prepares candidates for service in the Merchant Navy.
For B.E./B.Tech graduates, eligibility requires a degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Telecommunication/Communication, or Electronics & Instrumentation with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. The maximum age limit is 26 years at the time of course commencement. Diploma holders must meet specified academic criteria and, where applicable, relevant job experience requirements.
Candidates entering through lateral entry (Diploma to B.E./B.Tech) must meet prescribed academic and English proficiency standards. A minimum of 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th standard is generally required, with alternative aggregate criteria if the course was taught in English.
Applicants must meet DG Shipping medical standards, including minimum unaided vision of 6/12, no color blindness (tested via Ishihara Chart), and overall medical fitness certified by a DG Shipping-approved doctor. Degrees must be government or AICTE recognized.
