B.Tech Marine Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate program that trains students in the operation, maintenance, and management of ship machinery and marine engineering systems onboard merchant navy vessels. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical training in areas such as marine engines, electrical systems, thermodynamics, naval architecture, and ship maintenance.
Approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India, this program prepares students for a career as Marine Engineers in the Merchant Navy. After completing the degree and required sea service, candidates become eligible to appear for the Marine Engineer Officer (Class IV) Certificate of Competency examination conducted by D.G. Shipping. This qualification allows them to join ships worldwide as Junior or Fifth Engineers.
Eligibility generally requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (minimum 60% in PCM) and at least 50% marks in English. Candidates must also meet medical fitness standards as prescribed by DGS and qualify through the relevant entrance examination.
