The B.Sc. Nautical Science program prepares students to become Navigating Officers on merchant navy ships operating worldwide. The course provides comprehensive theoretical and practical training in navigation, cargo handling, chart work, meteorology, seamanship, ship stability, collision prevention, watchkeeping, marine signaling, and ship maintenance. Cadets receive hands-on training through simulators, chartroom practice, and onboard operational exercises. The program also focuses on building leadership skills, mental resilience, adaptability, and physical endurance, as life at sea demands strong psychological and physical fitness.
Admission requires qualification in IMU-CET/JEE or a recognized entrance examination. Candidates must have completed 10+2 with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and 50% in English. The age limit is generally below 25 years, with relaxation for reserved categories and women candidates. Only unmarried candidates are eligible.
Students must hold a valid passport and meet strict medical standards prescribed by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), including specific requirements for eyesight (no color blindness), hearing, physical fitness, and overall health. Successful candidates can pursue sea training and become certified Navigating Officers in the Merchant Navy.
