Navigating officers play a vital role onboard a ship, as they are responsible for safely piloting and steering the vessel to its destination. The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) programme is specially designed by industry professionals to develop competent and globally employable navigating officers. The course begins with a 12-month pre-sea training conducted onshore, followed by 18 months of structured onboard training at sea. After successfully completing this training, candidates become eligible to appear for the B.Sc. (Nautical Science) examination affiliated with Indian Maritime University and recognized by the Directorate General of Shipping.
The admission process includes an online examination, for which candidates receive a test link via email. Those who achieve the required cut-off score are invited for a personal interview. Shortlisted candidates must also qualify the IMU Combined Entrance Test (IMU-CET). Selected applicants are required to undergo a comprehensive medical examination as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000. The final merit list is prepared based on academic performance, online test scores, interview results, and medical fitness. Candidates who are selected must pay a non-refundable booking amount within the given deadline to confirm their admission.
