The Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) programme is an 18-month course designed to prepare candidates for successful careers in the global shipping and maritime industry. Structured to meet international standards, the programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical sea training. It begins with 8 months of onshore training, where candidates develop a strong foundation in marine engineering concepts and gain an understanding of the shipping industry. This is followed by 4 months of onboard training as a Trainee Marine Engineer, and then 6 months sailing as a Fifth Engineer, allowing candidates to build hands-on technical experience. After completing 10 months of sea service, candidates must undergo a 4-month preparatory course for the Class IV Certificate of Competency examination.
The admission process requires candidates to apply online and pay the prescribed application fee. Eligible applicants receive a link for an online examination, and those who meet the cut-off score are invited for a personal interview at the GEIMS campus in Lonavala. Shortlisted candidates must then undergo a comprehensive medical examination in accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000. The final selection is based on academic performance, online test results, interview performance, and medical fitness. Selected candidates must pay a non-refundable booking amount to confirm their admission.
