The Maritime Training Institute (MTI) under Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) invites applications from IMU-CET 2025 qualified candidates for the DNS (Deck Cadet) program. The course consists of 12 months Pre-Sea training at MTI followed by 18 months structured shipboard training on SCI vessels. Course fees are Rs 7,00,000 for male candidates and Rs 6,10,000 for female candidates (being revised).

Applications will be accepted online from 01 November 2025 (10:00 am) to 10 December 2025 (11:59 pm).

Eligibility includes 10+2 with PCM (minimum 60%), or B.Sc (PCM/Electronics with Physics) with 55%, or B.E./B.Tech (AICTE approved) with 50% in final year. Minimum 50% marks in English are mandatory. SC/ST candidates get 5% relaxation in academic marks (not in English). Specific English relaxation applies for ST candidates from Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands as per criteria.

Medical standards require 6/6 vision in the better eye, 6/9 in the other, normal colour vision (Ishihara test), and unmarried status.

After successful completion, candidates become eligible for Second Mate (FG) examination conducted by DG Shipping. On passing, they receive the Certificate of Competency (COC) and serve as Navigating Officers. However, SCI/SCILAL does not guarantee further employment beyond the structured training period.
