The B.Tech Marine Engineering programme is a four-year fully residential course structured into eight semesters, including practical training on a “Ship-in-Campus” during the seventh semester. Upon successful completion of the term-end examinations conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU), students are awarded a B.Tech degree. Graduates are also eligible for exemption from the Class IV, Part A examination of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), which is an important step toward becoming a certified Marine Engineer Officer.
Candidates must be unmarried and between 17 and 20 years of age at the commencement of the course. They must have passed Class XII in the first attempt from a regular board with a minimum 60% aggregate, 60% in PCM, at least 50% individually in Physics and Mathematics, and 60% combined in Physics and Mathematics. English must be one of the subjects with a minimum of 50% marks in Class X or XII. Clearing the IMU CET is mandatory. Applicants must meet DG Shipping medical standards, including no colour blindness, prescribed eyesight limits (corrective lenses permitted within limits), minimum height and weight requirements, BMI between 19 and 27, and possession of a valid passport before joining.
