The B.Sc. in Nautical Science (Pre-Sea) is a comprehensive residential programme designed to prepare students for a career as navigating officers in the merchant navy. The course spans three years and is structured into six semesters, focusing on building strong theoretical knowledge and practical maritime skills. It forms an essential part of a structured training pathway that includes onboard ship training, where cadets gain hands-on experience in applying navigation principles and ship operations. After completing onboard training, cadets may undergo a contact programme to prepare for the oral examination conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping. Upon successful completion, candidates are awarded a B.Sc. (Nautical Science) degree and a Certificate of Competency, enabling them to serve as officers on merchant ships. Eligibility includes meeting academic requirements in PCM and English, medical fitness standards as prescribed by DG Shipping, specified eyesight criteria with no colour blindness, and an age limit as per guidelines.
