This programme, affiliated with the Indian Maritime University and approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, provides comprehensive theoretical and practical training in navigation, ship operations, and maritime safety, preparing students for careers as Deck Officers on merchant vessels such as tankers, passenger ships, and cargo carriers. The curriculum includes structured workshops, hands-on practical exposure, and guidance from experienced faculty, ensuring students develop proficiency in maritime operations, safety regulations, and onboard responsibilities. To be eligible, candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics securing at least 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% in English in either 10th or 12th standard, and must obtain a valid rank in the IMU-CET. Applicants must also hold a valid Indian passport and submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a DG Shipping–approved doctor. The minimum age for admission is 17 years, while the upper age limit varies by category and gender (calculated as on 01-08-2024). Candidates must meet prescribed medical standards, including 6/6 vision in the better eye and 6/9 in the other eye without color blindness, along with overall physical fitness as per Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules.
