The DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) Course at Sriram Institute of Marine Studies is approved by Directorate General of Shipping and affiliated with Indian Maritime University, Chennai. The institute offers an intake of 40 cadets, with the course commencing from 01.08.2022. The program consists of two semesters at the institute campus and one semester onboard ship.
Eligibility requires 10+2 from a recognized board with minimum 60% in PCM and 50% in English. B.Sc candidates must have 50% overall with Physics in at least one year. A 5% relaxation in PCM marks is applicable for SC/ST candidates. The age limit is 17–25 years (as per Government norms).
Medical standards require 6/6 vision in both eyes without aids, no color blindness, no physical deformity, and fitness for sea service. Candidates must provide a passport within 10 days of course commencement, Aadhaar card, and valid category/EWS certificates if applicable.
Course fees include INR 35,000 IMU counseling fee, INR 1,55,000 per semester (first two semesters), and INR 10,000 security deposit. Admission is based on IMU-CET rank. The institute also provides preparatory training for CET and offers registration support with refundable conditions for non-qualifiers.
