B.Sc. (Nautical Science) – 3 Years
The B.Sc. Nautical Science is a three-year, DG Shipping–approved residential program under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The course prepares cadets for careers as Navigating Officers in the Merchant Navyand leads to eligibility for the Second Mate’s Foreign-Going Certificate of Competency after completion of the prescribed 12 months of sea service. Graduates can serve onboard merchant vessels worldwide.
Eligibility requires passing 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects, securing a minimum 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th level. Candidates must be 17 to 25 years of age at course commencement, with 5 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates.
The course begins every August. The selection process includes a campus-based entrance test (Chennai), psychometric assessment by a DGS-approved psychologist, DG-approved medical examination, and a panel interview conducted by experienced Chief Engineers and Captain Superintendents
