the be in marine engineering program is designed to prepare students for successful careers in the maritime industry with a strong focus on ship engineering maintenance and operation. this program provides in depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems naval architecture marine electrical systems maritime regulations safety standards and shipboard practices. students gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills through hands on training workshops laboratories and residential learning which are essential for working onboard ships and in related marine industries.

the course duration for the be in marine engineering program is four years consisting of eight semesters and it is a fully residential course. the sanctioned strength for the program is three hundred and sixty students. boys and girls are eligible to apply and possession of a valid passport is mandatory at the time of admission as marine engineering is an internationally oriented profession.

to be eligible candidates must have passed the twelfth standard examination from a recognized board with physics chemistry mathematics and english as separate subjects. a minimum pcm average of sixty percent is required. additionally candidates must have secured at least fifty percent marks in english either in the tenth or twelfth standard examination as per dgs norms. a relaxation of five percent in english marks is applicable only to candidates who are natives of lakshadweep or andaman and nicobar islands belong to their scheduled tribes and whose parents were born in those islands. for sc and st candidates a relaxation of five percent in pcm marks is permitted but this relaxation does not apply to english marks.

qualifying in imu cet or iit jee or any state level engineering entrance examination with a minimum of forty percentile score is mandatory for admission. a minimum of sixty percent of the sanctioned strength will be admitted through imu cet. candidates must ensure that both their tenth and twelfth standard education has been completed from a recognized board.

the age limit for admission is below twenty five years at the time of commencement of the programme. age relaxation is provided as follows five years for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates three years for other backward classes non creamy layer and an additional two years for women candidates in each category.

medical fitness is a crucial requirement for admission to the marine engineering programme. candidates must meet the physical fitness standards prescribed under the merchant shipping medical examination rules two thousand as amended. this includes standards for eyesight hearing binocular vision and overall physical condition. there should be no morbid condition of the eyes normal color vision must be confirmed using the ishihara test and the required distance vision standards must be met. at the time of admission candidates must produce a medical fitness certificate issued by doctors approved by the directorate general of shipping.

the programme also offers lateral entry into the second year of the four year marine engineering degree course. candidates who have completed a three year diploma in mechanical engineering electrical engineering or electrical and electronics engineering from aicte or state board approved institutions with a minimum of fifty five percent aggregate marks in the final year are eligible. candidates who have passed the first year of engineering in streams such as mechanical or electrical engineering with a minimum of sixty percent average marks are also eligible. a minimum of fifty percent marks in english is required in tenth or twelfth standard or diploma or degree level. the course duration for lateral entry students is three years residential the age limit is below twenty five years and a valid passport is mandatory. boys and girls are eligible to apply.
