The B.Tech Marine Engineering program is a four-year residential undergraduate course designed to train students in the operation, maintenance, and management of shipboard machinery and marine systems. Marine Engineers are responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the engine room and all technical operations onboard a vessel. They lead teams of skilled technical crew and handle practical tasks such as dismantling, repairing, overhauling, and reassembling machinery. In certain situations, spare parts may also need to be fabricated onboard. The Chief Engineer heads the technical department and ensures the vessel’s safe and efficient voyage.
This program is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India) and leads to the award of the Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency after completion of the course and six months of mandatory sea service. This certification enables candidates to serve as Marine Engineers on Merchant Navy ships worldwide.
