The Certificate Course in Maritime Catering (CCMC) is a pre-sea training program designed for candidates who wish to build a career in the Catering and Hospitality Department of the Merchant Navy. After successful completion of the course, candidates can join national and foreign ships as Steward Helper or General Steward. With further sea service and experience, they can progress to higher ranks such as Chief Cook.

The course provides training in food preparation, galley operations, housekeeping, hygiene standards, and hospitality management onboard ships. It prepares candidates to maintain high standards of catering services and ensure the comfort and well-being of crew members at sea.

Eligibility requires passing 10th or 12th standard from a recognized board with a minimum of 40% aggregate marks and at least 40% marks in English. Alternatively, candidates holding a Degree or Diploma in Hospitality, Hotel Management, Catering Technology, or related fields are also eligible to apply.

The age limit is 18 to 28 years at the time of course commencement. Final selection is subject to a stringent medical examination conducted by a Directorate General of Shipping (DGS)-approved doctor as per prescribed maritime medical standards.
