The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) course is a 17-week pre-sea training program designed to prepare candidates for a technical career in the Merchant Navy. The course follows standards set by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS)and STCW guidelines. It provides training in shipboard electrical systems, power generation and distribution, automation systems, equipment maintenance, safety procedures, and communication skills.
After completing the pre-sea training, cadets must undergo 8 months of onboard training. Upon successful completion, candidates become eligible to appear for the DGS Certificate of Competency (CoC) examination, qualifying them to work as Electro-Technical Officers on merchant ships worldwide.
Eligibility includes 10+2 with minimum 60% in PCM and 50% in English, age below 25 years (relaxation as per category), valid passport, IMU CET qualification, unmarried status, and meeting strict DGS medical and physical fitness standards including normal eyesight and no color blindness.
