The Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) Course is a one-year DGS-approved conversion program designed for Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture graduates who wish to pursue a career as Marine Engineers in the Merchant Navy. The course provides eligibility for exemptions toward the Marine Engineer Officer (MEO) Class IV Certificate of Competency, enabling candidates to enter the marine engineering officer stream.
Eligibility requires a BE/B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Automation Engineering, or Naval Architecture from a UGC-recognized or AICTE-approved institution, with a minimum of 50% marks in the final year and 50% marks in English at 10th, 12th, or degree level. Candidates must be not more than 28 years of ageat the time of course commencement, with age relaxations applicable for SC/ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and women candidates as per government norms.
Selection is through an entrance examination, personal interview, and DG-approved medical fitness assessment. Candidates must meet DGS medical standards, including prescribed eyesight norms and no colour blindness. A valid passport is mandatory.
