The Graduate Mechanical Engineering (GME) programme is a 12-month course designed to prepare mechanical engineering graduates for a professional career at sea in marine engineering and shipboard technical operations. With a total fee of ₹5,60,000, the course provides comprehensive training in maritime mechanical systems, ship maintenance, engine operations, and onboard technical management, equipping candidates with the knowledge and practical competence required to serve on merchant vessels.
The programme is open to Indian nationals (male or female) holding or having applied for an Indian passport, with an upper age limit of 28 years on the date of commencement of the course. Applicants must possess a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Automation, or Naval Architecture from a UGC-recognized university or AICTE-approved institute, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final year and at least 50% marks in English at 10th, 12th, or degree level. Candidates must meet prescribed medical standards for sea service, including eyesight requirements (6/6 or 6/12 in each eye, or 6/18 in one eye and 6/9 in the better eye) with normal colour vision tested by Ishihara chart, and must obtain medical fitness certification from a DG Shipping-approved doctor as per STCW Code regulations.
This programme serves as a crucial pathway for graduates aspiring to build careers as marine engineers, enabling them to take up responsible roles in ship operations, machinery management, and technical supervision onboard vessels.
