The Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) program is a one-year, DG Shipping–approved residential pre-sea training course designed for graduates in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture who aspire to build a career as Marine Engineers in the Merchant Navy. The program leads to eligibility for the Marine Engineer Officer (MEO) Class IV Certificate of Competency, awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, after completion of the prescribed six months of sea service. Successful candidates can serve onboard merchant vessels worldwide.
Eligibility requires a B.E./B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture with a minimum of 50% marks in the final year and 50% marks in English at 10th, 12th, or degree level. The maximum age limit is 28 yearsat the time of course commencement.
The course begins every September. Selection includes a campus-based entrance test (Chennai), psychometric assessment by a DGS-approved psychologist, DG-approved medical examination, and a panel interview conducted by experienced Chief Engineers and Captain Superintendents.
Training comprises comprehensive theory and practical sessions conducted at the institute’s dedicated campus facilities.
