I am writing this review based on my experience and what I have seen at HIMT College. Honestly, it is one of the best marine colleges in India. They offer all major Pre-Sea maritime courses like B.Tech Marine Engineering – 4 years, B.Sc. Nautical Science – 3 years, Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) – 1 year, Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) – 1 year, Electro Technical Officers (ETO) – 4 months, General Purpose Rating (GP Rating) – 6 months, B.Tech Marine Engineering (Lateral Entry) – 3 years, and even Orientation Course for Catering Personnel (OCCP) – 12 days. Apart from these, they also have company sponsored courses, which is a big advantage for students looking for direct industry exposure. The campus is very large, more than 12 acres, and surrounded by nature. It really feels peaceful and professional at the same time. Inside the campus, everything is well planned – academic block, administration block, temple, merit block, parade ground, workshops, auditorium, cafeteria, and separate accommodation blocks for boys and girls, and they are clean and comfortable. They even have a ship-in-campus, swimming pool for training, sports complex, gym and many other facilities. Students get a proper marine life feeling even before going onboard ships. What impressed me most is their training quality. With 25+ years of experience, HIMT College clearly knows how to train future seafarers. The faculty members are very professional and experienced. Classrooms are modern and fully air-conditioned. They also have VR rooms, simulator training, real-time workshops, and practical-based learning, which helps students understand ship operations clearly. Training is not just theory; it is very practical and industry-oriented. HIMT has a very strong reputation in the maritime industry. Placement support is excellent, and they claim around 95% placement assistance for eligible candidates. Many students get placed in top shipping companies across the globe. The institute really supports students till they get onboard, which gives parents and students a lot of confidence about choosing this college. Another great thing is their support for students through scholarships and financial benefits. They provide scholarships for eligible students, and to encourage women seafarers, they offer an instant 1 lakh discount for female students. This is a very positive step to increase the presence of women in the Merchant Navy, and not many marine colleges do this seriously (I think so). Overall, HIMT College is fully dedicated to creating skilled men and women seafarers every year. From infrastructure and training to placements and student support, everything is well managed. For anyone serious about building a career in the Merchant Navy, I strongly feel HIMT College at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, India is a trusted and reliable choice.
